Monet does not create user accounts, and it collects no personal data for its normal operation. The app contains no analytics, tracking or advertising SDKs. The one exception is Premium activation on devices without the Google Play Store, described in section 6.
The weather display is switched on by default and can be turned off in the launcher settings. While it is on, Monet needs an approximate location to look up local weather.
It obtains that location in one of two ways. If you granted the location permission and the television reports a position, Monet uses it. If not, Monet derives an approximate location from your public IP address by calling ipwho.is, falling back to get.geojs.io. This happens even if you declined the location permission, because most televisions never report a position at all and the weather display would otherwise stay empty. Turning the weather display off stops it entirely.
The resulting coordinates are sent via HTTPS to open-meteo.com, falling back to api.brightsky.dev, to retrieve the forecast. Monet stores neither the coordinates nor your IP address. These providers receive no other data about you and no identifier that would let them recognise you across requests.

If you open the in-launcher gallery to choose a custom wallpaper, Monet requests permission to read images and videos stored on the device. The gallery is required because the system photo picker is not designed for D-pad navigation. The selected file is stored locally as the launcher background. Monet does not upload, transmit or share any photos or videos.
On devices with the Google Play Store, Premium is unlocked through Google Play Billing. Payment processing is handled exclusively by Google. Monet does not receive any payment information.
Monet displays posters and titles from TV apps installed on the device using the Android TvContract API. Images are loaded directly from the respective providers; Monet does not transmit any user data in the process.
On devices that have no Google Play Store, Premium can be activated through our own activation service at activate.monetlauncher.com. This only happens if you open the activation screen yourself. If you buy Premium through Google Play, none of this applies and no data is sent to us.
While the activation screen is open, the app sends to that service:
Your IP address is visible to the service while the request is in transit, as with any web request, and is not stored. It is passed to Polar with the checkout so that the correct currency and tax rate can be determined. The service runs on Cloudflare Workers with data stored in the European Union.
Retention: an abandoned activation attempt is deleted after two days, a completed one after one year. The record that a given television is activated is kept for as long as the license exists, because it is what enforces the device limit; it contains no more than the hashed identifier described above. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Once activation completes, the app stores a signed license file locally and never contacts the service again. Premium then works fully offline.
Purchases made outside the Google Play Store are processed by Polar Software Inc. as the merchant of record. Polar is your contract partner for these purchases and handles payment, invoicing and applicable taxes. Your name, email address and payment details are provided to Polar, not to us. We receive only the license key associated with your purchase and never see your payment details. Polar privacy policy
Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77); for us that is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht.
Write to contact@klevico.com and include either your license key or the email address you used for the purchase, so we can find the record. We cannot identify you from the stored data alone: the activation identifier is a random value with no link to your person, which is the point of it.
The activation service runs on infrastructure of Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) with data stored in the European Union, under a data processing agreement and the EU standard contractual clauses. Payments outside Google Play are handled by Polar Software Inc. (USA) as an independent controller and merchant of record. The weather providers named in section 2 receive only coordinates. No data is sold or used for advertising.
