Monet does not create user accounts and contains no analytics, tracking or advertising SDKs. Most features work entirely on your TV. We, the developer, receive personal data only if you activate Premium without Google Play (section 13) or buy Premium outside Google Play (section 14). Some features contact other services directly from your TV. The sections below list every case in which data leaves your TV.
The weather display is switched on by default and can be turned off in the launcher settings. While it is on, Monet needs an approximate location to look up local weather.
It obtains that location in one of two ways. If you granted the location permission and the television reports a position, Monet uses it. If not, Monet derives an approximate location from your public IP address by calling ipwho.is, falling back to get.geojs.io. This happens even if you declined the location permission, because most televisions never report a position at all and the weather display would otherwise stay empty. Turning the weather display off stops it entirely.
The resulting coordinates are sent via HTTPS to open-meteo.com, falling back to api.brightsky.dev, to retrieve the forecast. Monet does not store the derived coordinates or your IP address. These providers receive no other data about you and no identifier that would let them recognise you across requests.
You can also set the weather location yourself by searching for a place. The text you type is then sent to geocoding-api.open-meteo.com to find matching places. Monet stores the place you choose on the TV and from then on asks neither Android nor the IP services above for a location.

If you choose an online wallpaper source, Monet loads pictures and videos directly from it: Reddit (reddit.com, i.redd.it, v.redd.it, i.imgur.com), Wallhaven (wallhaven.cc) or Bing (bing.com). Aerial videos come from the addresses that the separately installed Aerial Views app provides, usually servers of Apple, Amazon or community projects. Monet sends these services only what each request needs, such as the subreddits, search terms and filters you set.
The sports widget loads results from OpenLigaDB (api.openligadb.de) and, if you add your own API key, from BALLDONTLIE (api.balldontlie.io, f1.balldontlie.io).
As with any web request, these services see your IP address. Apart from your own API key (section 4), Monet sends them no identifier for you or your TV. Legal basis: legitimate interest in providing the feature you chose (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
For Wallhaven and BALLDONTLIE you can enter your own API key. Monet stores it encrypted on the TV and sends it only to the service it belongs to. It is part of Monet's own backups (section 11), but never of Android's backup to your Google account.
If you open the in-launcher gallery to choose a custom wallpaper, Monet requests permission to read images and videos stored on the device. The gallery is required because the system photo picker is not designed for D-pad navigation. The same access lets Monet rotate wallpapers from a folder you choose and show your pictures in the screensaver. Monet does not upload, transmit or share any photos or videos.
When you use the screenshot action, Monet saves the picture in Pictures/Screenshots on the TV. It is not uploaded or shared.
Monet offers an optional accessibility service and explains it before you turn it on. It lets Monet open when you press Home or wake the TV, run your button mapping and sleep timer, show its menus, pop-ups and screensaver over other apps, tap where the mouse cursor points, take screenshots when you ask, and enforce kids profiles. For this it sees which app is open and which buttons you press. It does not read text inside apps.
This information is used on the TV only and is never sent to us or anyone else. Monet keeps only what a feature needs, for example the screen time of a kids profile (section 8).
If you grant notification access, Monet shows your notifications in its own notification centre and recognises media playback for its playback controls and the screensaver. Notification contents are kept in memory only; Monet stores just which notifications you have already seen. Nothing is transmitted.
Kids profiles, approved apps, daily limits, bedtimes and the parent PIN are stored on the TV. To enforce the daily limit, Monet records how long apps are used in a kids profile: today's time per app and the daily totals of the past week. The parent PIN and the emergency code are stored only as a salted hash. None of this is sent to us or anyone else.
Monet displays posters and titles from TV apps installed on the device using the Android TvContract API. Images are loaded directly from the respective providers; Monet does not transmit any user data in the process.
When you check for updates in the settings, Monet asks github.com for the latest version. GitHub sees your IP address and the app version, as with any request to GitHub. GitHub privacy statement
Monet's own backups are files saved on the TV or in a location you choose. They contain your settings, including your own API keys and your parental control rules, so keep them private. Monet does not upload them anywhere itself.
If backup to your Google account is turned on in Android, Android may include Monet's settings. API keys, PINs, parental control settings, screen time and purchase data are left out.
On devices with the Google Play Store, Premium is unlocked through Google Play Billing. Payment processing is handled exclusively by Google. Monet does not receive any payment information.
On devices that have no Google Play Store, Premium can be activated through our own activation service at activate.monetlauncher.com. This only happens if you open the activation screen yourself. If you buy Premium through Google Play, none of this applies and no data is sent to us.
While the activation screen is open, the app sends to that service:
If you unlock another television with your license key, the key is also sent to the service so it can find your purchase.
Your IP address is visible to the service while the request is in transit, as with any web request, and is not stored. It is passed to Polar with the checkout so that the correct currency and tax rate can be determined. The service runs on Cloudflare Workers with data stored in the European Union.
Retention: an abandoned activation attempt is deleted after two days, a completed one after one year. The record that a given television is activated is kept for as long as the license exists, because it is what enforces the device limit; it contains no more than the hashed identifier described above. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
Once activation completes, the app stores a signed license file locally and never contacts the service again. Premium then works fully offline.
Purchases made outside the Google Play Store are processed by Polar Software Inc. as the merchant of record. Polar is your contract partner for these purchases and handles payment, invoicing and applicable taxes. Your name, email address and payment details are provided to Polar, not to us. We receive only the license key associated with your purchase and never see your payment details. Polar privacy policy
Under the GDPR you have the right to access (Art. 15), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object to processing based on legitimate interest (Art. 21). You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (Art. 77); for us that is the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht.
Write to contact@klevico.com and include either your license key or the email address you used for the purchase, so we can find the record. We cannot identify you from the stored data alone: the activation identifier is a random value with no link to your person, which is the point of it.
The activation service runs on infrastructure of Cloudflare, Inc. (USA) with data stored in the European Union, under a data processing agreement and the EU standard contractual clauses. Payments outside Google Play are handled by Polar Software Inc. (USA) as an independent controller and merchant of record. The weather providers named in section 2 receive only coordinates or the place you search for. The wallpaper, sports and update services named in sections 3 and 10 receive only the requests your TV sends them. No data is sold or used for advertising.
